James enjoys extensive classical music work, with soloists, duos and ensembles of all sizes.

James’ recordings are created by combining state-of-the-art technology, a meticulous attention to detail, and experienced ears. He always strives to convey the true essence of each composition by capturing every delicate nuance. With James’ recordings, you will feel as if you're sitting in the best seat in the house, surrounded by the enchanting soundscapes that high-quality classical music deserves.

James uses a lovely combination of vintage and modern microphones to produce accurate, “classical”, but flattering recordings with a great sense of realism and depth. He most often uses Decca based recoding techniques, captured through crystal clear preamps and converters.

His microphone list includes modern and vintage offerings from Neumann, AEA, STC Coles and Line Audio amongst others.

For any projects involving filming, broadcasting or streaming, James’ full service production company (founded with award-winning cinematographer Oliver Granger) JORG Productions offers cinema quality services catering for everything from concerts filmed for later broadcast to live streamed open rehearsals and much more.

James consults for a variety of projects.

Often advising on matters relating to studio and location recording and mixing, as well as wider music industry practices.

James enjoys sharing his knowledge about all aspects of recording and studio practices.

He leads masterclasses at a university level and offers one-on-one sessions with students.

He also has mentoring experience and regularly takes on assistants.
